What I Am Doing Now
Life and professional updates on a seasonal cadence, inspired by the Now page movement. Less permanent than what I do.
Japan Spring '25
📚In between the many joys and surprises of being a dad, I have started to study software development. There are many software ideas that I would like to explore, but not being able to develop them fully has always been a big blocker.
I am now pushing the boundaries of my knowledge about development and currently learning with the Odin Project. So far it's been great. I do have already some good foundations of html and CSS, but bringing them to the next level and getting more comfortable with Javascript has been very satisfying.
💡In tandem with learning more about software development, I am starting exploring some concepts that encourage me to develop as I learn. The first spark out there is This Designer Codes, a blog where I collect notes about my learning journey. It's built with Eleventy and hosted on Codeberg, both of which I wanted to try out for a while.
It's purposely very brutalist at the moment, but I have some ideas on how to uplift it, starting from some custom CSS resets and maybe a handmade class-less stylesheet. Stay tuned to see how it evolves!
Japan Summer '24
🐣Life in Shodoshima has been wonderful. Adaptation for me has been easier than pretty much every other western country I have lived in, and experiencing for the first time being part of a local, small, close community has been a revelation. Living in a rural place has its own challenges, but I am very grateful that the rewards have been much more meaningful than the downsides.
Together with my partner, we are also going to start a new journey soon, a baby is coming! It's a feeling like I've never had before, and I want to give them my full focus for a while, and pause on the big digital projects until...who knows?
🌱I am very proud that Discover Regenerative has been recently launched, result of the initiative I have been working on for the last year. Seeing the first interactions with the new portal has been very exciting, and supporting the team in entering the next phase of this product has made me both happy, but also a bit sad since I won't be with them.
I do want to continue focusing on regeneration, climate and community focused initiatives, and I am planning to start planting seeds of ideas for digital products, and local services here in Shodoshima. If sleep allows, I will water the seeds and see if anything sprouts for the next few months while bonding with my baby :)
Japan Spring '23
🍅I am currently working on a very exciting new project with the Open Food Network, in collaboration with the Macdoch Fundation, with the goal to increase demand and market access for regenerative producers and products in Australia.
🎏I have recently moved with my partner to Shodoshima, a small island in Japan.
I want to be part of the lovely local community here, and currently learning the japanese language. Learning something new from zero is both exciting and challenging!
